Keeping in touch through myspace and facebook
So this week we had to discuss how the internet has changed communication. Many people thought that venues such as facebook or myspace are impersonal cites that have distanced us from quality communication. I must say that I disagree. I am not an avid myspace or facebook user; however, I do enjoy these cites, because I have been able to keep in touch with so many people that I would normally have never talked to again. I must admit that I do not have many meaningful and deep conversations over myspace or facebook; however, these venues have allowed me to stay in touch with people that I care about. There are many friends that I updated and receive updates on their life, coordinate get-togethers, or share little encouragements through facebook and myspace. I must admit that I am grateful for these cites (as corney as that sounds). I love to meet and keep in touch with people and these cites allow me to do that so much more.

I'm also not an avid user of myspace, but it does allow me to keep in touch with friends, share photos and updates. I've been able to find friends that I went to school with but lost track of after graduation or friends that were in the military but got out and moved. It's very nice, but I have to admit that it does have a few downfalls. I've gotten a few viruses from the site and then there are the crazy people that want you to be there "friend". Just like any other site, you have to be careful of who you talk to and what you download.
I first found facebook about 2 years ago and have been hooked ever since. It's one of the only sites I visit on a regular basis. The main reason is because I can keep in contact with all of my old friends-like you said-who otherwise, I probably wouldn't speak to. I can also keep people up on my life. I doubt I will keep using facebook forever, because eventually I'll just get too busy, or everyone else will stop using it, or we'll all just lose touch-much like people do anyway. However, I have loved having it to talk with people and feel connected, because I really don't have friends I hang out with anymore!
